67. REMAINS OF A FORT, DIMAPURDISTRICT:Dimapur
LOCALITY:Dimapur (Lat. 25° 54' N; Long.9344' E)
APPROACH :Airport:Dimapur; Railway Station : Dimapur; Bus Station :Dimapur.
Dimapur was the capital of the Cacharis, an aboriginal tribe of this region who abandoned the capital city of Dimapur in 1536 CE after invasion of the Ahoms.
There is no direct evidence to suggest the precise date of the structure and the monoliths.However, on the basis of architectural style of brick built gateway with pointed arches showing Islamic influence, correspondingly can be dated to Mughal period.

The principal remains close to the gate are the group of stone pillars of Chessman; V shaped monoliths carved with florals, geometrical designs, swords and dagger motifs. The capitals of the monoliths are hemispherical in Shape.
